This

Itoya isMulti-Ring a very personal choice, I will try to layout the differences and pros and cons for each use.

  • Binders tend to be more expensive than folios.

Itoya Folios

Quick Stats:

  • Each new folio comes with twenty-four non-removable pages.
  • Most folios will have difficulty standing on their own (especially with the weight of cels added to them).
  • Because the pages are permanently bound to the folio, you cannot add, remove or reorganize pages. The attached pages also bend more at the binding, which can cause problems for cel paint.
  • Folios tend to be less expensive than binders.

Things to Consider

Whether you choose to store your cels/sketches/backgrounds in a binder or a folio the common sizes purchased by collectors are 11x14 or 11x17 inches. Both sizes are larger than a standard size cel. However, if you are storing backgrounds as well then you'll need something that is veryat sturdy. least 11x14.

Another consideration when choosing between binders and folios is how you will store them and how much pressure will be placed on the art (cels in particular) as a result. Cel paint can crack and flake if too much weight/pressure is placed on them. One of the otheradvantages nice things aboutof the binders is that youthey can purchase extra pages to add to the binder.  Basedstand on mytheir personalown experience the max amount of pages you want to add to the binders are about 24 - to fit anywhere between 24-48 cels.  I recommend you stick to one cel per page so that you can make use of the most convenient features of the binders, the ability to move cels around your binder without removing them from the sleeve, and you can keep your cels organized the way you like without too much pain i.e. I prefer to organize my cels by season and then episode, so that I can lay my hand on a piece at any time within five minutes or so.  Binders also have more options for storage you can buy a blanket hanger to hang them in your closet causing your cels to naturally have no pressure on the paint cause each cel will hang in it's sleeve individually with out putting pressure on the others, or you can store them upright in a bookcasewhich, as long as you don't squeeze them into a tight space, will keep pressure off the cels inside. Some collectors even store their binders by running a blanket hanger through the binder rings and hanging them in a crowdedcloset.

Itoya Folios - Folios are where I startedproduct when Icompared firstto startedtheir collectingfolios. theyHowever, are cheap and can be found in abundance all over the interwebs.  They are little less sturdy butfolios are still better than nothing and may be a good enoughstarting point for anewer smallercollectors collection,or youfor shouldcollectors notwho really keepfocus more thanon 24sketches, cels in a Folio at a time especially if you have a couple backgroundsbackgrounds, and largerother celsworks causeon the folio causes the pages to bend at the binding and will bend the cels in the foliopaper that are sittingless closevulnerable.

to the binding like oversize cels and backgrounds.  Recommended size is again 11x14, for most standard cels with backgrounds.  Pros - Cheap and good for a smaller collection, when I made the switch over to binders I saved my folios for my growing sketch collection.  Cons - not as sturdy and won't stand up as straight in a book case, the more cels you have in the folio the more the binding will bend, and the more cels you have in the folio at one point the folio cover will start to bend, because surprisingly enough cels are heavy.
